Volleyball Adds 4 Recruits For 2021 Campaign

Texas Southern head volleyball coach Gabrielle Floyd announced four additions to the 2021 volleyball roster in Katherine (Kat) Betancourt, Chenise Cook, Caitlyn Roland and Tyra Williams.

Earned District 17-6A Second Team honors…named academic all-district…led team to the second round of the playoffs…led team in hitting percentage and blocks…earned honorable mention all-distract honors as a junior.
 
“Kat will be a great utility player that plays big for her size,” said Floyd. “She has a fast arm swing and can dominate matches with her power. Kat reads the court well and is relentless in pursuit of the ball.”

District 27-5A Most Valuable Offensive Player…led team to a third-place finish after tallying 100 kills and 20 blocks in 2020…also played basketball and earned honorable mention honors…named to the 2019 all-district first team…earned all-academic honors.
 
“Chenise is a very athletic middle blocker with a strong court presence,” said Floyd. “She is smart offensively with a long reach and dynamic shots. Her love for the game and her leadership will make her a great teammate.”

2021 NJCAA All-American…Alabama Community College Conference Player of the Year…ACCC First Teamer who led Lawson State to its first-ever national championship tournament appearance…led team with 206 kills and 3.17 kills per set…finished with 27 blocks.
 
“Caitlyn is a pin hitter that will help stabilize our serve receive and then transition into an effective offensive option,” said Floyd. “She is a vocal leader that loves to encourage her teammates.”

Killeen, Texas / Shoemaker

Named to the District 12-6A First Team along with all-academic honors…earned honorable mention honors as a freshman.
 
“Tyra is a pin hitter that will make an impact with her smart and aggressive offensive shots,” added Floyd. “Her long reach will be an attribute defensively to help us with shutting down our opponent’s power hitters.”
