Tuesday’s Baseball Game At Tulane Moved To 1 p.m.

The Texas Southern Tigers return to the road to play a one-off game against the #23 Tulane Green Wave in New Orleans, La. on Tuesday. Due to weather, the contest will be played at 1 p.m.

This will be the fourth time the Tigers will a nationally ranked team, with the last three occasions coming from games against #16 Oklahoma (Feb. 18-19) and #4 Mississippi State (Feb. 25), and the Green Wave themselves. Their first encounter happened in 2005 in New Orleans when Tulane defeated the Tigers, 8-4.

Although the Tigers began the year in a nine-game rut, they come into the game as winners of three of their last four games, where they beat fellow conference foe Arkansas-Pine Bluff at home in two of the series’ three games and upset Mississippi State beforehand 8-4.

The Tigers’ hottest batter thus far is designated hitter and cleanup batter Oscar Ponce. He went 5-for-14 in the last series against Pine Bluff and was responsible for batting in 8 runs—which bumped him to first in RBIs for the team – scoring four runs himself, and walking twice.

Roderick Coffee, Justin Cooper, and Victor Bueno round out the rest of the team’s notable hitters. The trio hold the joint team lead for hits this season with 14. Coffee, along with his .389 average, four home runs, nine RBIs, 26 total bases and 1.187 OPS, continues to be first in most of the mentioned categories. Cooper is hitting .292 average with 10 runs, two doubles, six walks, 16 total bases, three stolen bases (1st in team) and a .407 OBP.  The Tigers are still sorting their midweek rotation out as three pitchers saw action during the team’s midweek games.
