HOUSTON – One thing that has caught the eye of head coach Clarence McKinney has been the play of the Tiger defense. The unit has been flying to the ball and playing with passion under first-year defensive coordinator Jeff Ceasar.

“The kids have been responding well as we’re just trying to give them their assignments so they can follow through with it on gameday,” said Ceasar. “That’s what Coach McKinney has been preaching and our job is to ensure they take in what we teach.”

A Lake Charles, La. native, Ceasar is a graduate of Grambling State and played under legendary head coach Eddie Robinson. Seven starters return on a unit which ranked seventh in  the SWAC in total defense. A former defensive lineman, one area he’ll have to address is the pass rush as the Tigers generated only nine sacks on the season. While the team rebuilds up front, the defense did tie for third in the SWAC with 12 interceptions.

Season tickets are still available this season at tsusports.com in addition to single game tickets. The season kicks off on Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m. against Prairie View A&M in the 35th edition of the Labor Day Classic at BBVA Stadium.
