TSU Soccer Prepares For Final 2 Home Games Friday, Sunday

The Texas Southern University soccer team is back in action with a pair of home games this weekend against Grambling State on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. and Arkansas-Pine Bluff Sunday, Oct. 27  at 1 p.m. inside Durley Stadium.

Immediately after Friday’s contest, the Tigers will celebrate senior night as the team will honor eight seniors (Bailey Blalock #9, Rania Kablawi #17, Madison Phillips #19, Begona Rodriguez-Bravo #14, Cass Sandoval #4, Kayla Smith #5, Jasmine Vereen #27 and Christina Vital #20).

TSU (4-2-1 SWAC) looks to continue their winning ways from the previous two road games which saw the Tigers win 2-1 against Alabama State followed by another big 2-1 overtime victory against Alabama A&M. With only three regular season games left on the 2019 schedule, wins at home this weekend could pay big dividends as the Tigers look to climb the standings.

Coming off two big road wins, TSU head coach Lindsay Vera talks about how the wins will have an impact on both games this weekend.

“I’ve been using this word a lot with the team as we’ve been talking about ‘momentum’ and I feel as if we picked up ‘momentum’ right when it’s time to come home,” she said. “We’re undefeated at home so far and we don’t expect that to change.”

Grambling State enters with a 4-3 mark in SWAC play and holds a two-game winning streak over TSU while UAPB holds a one-game streak. Since 2009, TSU is 6-2 against Grambling State while tied at 4-4-1 against UAPB.
