TSU men in third place after first day at SWAC indoor championship meet
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The tigers of Texas southern University stand in third place after the first day of competition at the Southwestern Athletic Conference indoor track and field championship meet.
A pair of Tigers were among the top three finishers in the 3,000-meter run, as Jorge Martinez finished second and Hillary Maiyo took third place in the event. Martinez (pictured left) ran the event with a time of 8 minutes, 52.73 seconds, while Maiyo (pictured center) finished with a time of 8:55.38.
Luis Delreal finished the event in sixth place with a time of 8:59.75.
The Tigers got another second-place finish from Chris Allen, who took silver in the shot put event. Allen had a throw of 14.87 meters (48 feet, 9.5 inches). Teammate Colby Williams finished fifth, with his top throw traveling 14.22 meters (46 feet, 8 inches).
In the long jump event, TSU's Taylor Levine finished in fourth place with a jump of seven meters (22 feet, 11.75 inches).
The championship meet concludes Friday.
