TSU Golf Claims Men’s, Women’s Individual Titles In Season Opener

MOBILE, Ala. – Texas Southern University men’s and women’s golf teams concluded the second round of their spring season opener at the Mardi Gras Invitational Saturday as Devansh Chadha and Rev Alcantara won the men’s and women’s individual titles, respectively.

Chadha kept the momentum from the first round to post a 75 and captured the individual title. Teammate Grant Everson finished tied for third individually after his round of 73 today. The men’s team finished in third place overall with the team having a 14-stroke improvement in the final round.

“The men showed spurts of their potential,” Texas Southern head coach Dr. Gary Grandison said. “I am pleased with our improvement today in such challenging weather conditions.”

The Lady Tigers, who competed as individuals, also shaved off strokes from their first round. Rev Alcantara won individually on the women’s side with her 5-over round of 76. A’Marie Smith had a 9-shot improvement in her final round.

“The women’s team pushed hard today with a significant number of birdies,” Grandison said. “Rev was in position to shoot under par and A’Marie played better than her score, so we will continue to work.”

Texas Southern women’s golf returns to the links March 1-2 in the Hank Stewart Collegiate while the men’s team competes March 7-9 in the Colin Montgomerie HBU Invitational.
