TSU Baseball/Softball Programs To Receive New Practice Hitting Facility

The Texas Southern baseball and softball programs will receive a major upgrade for its on-campus training with the addition of a covered batting cage for the upcoming season.

The cage will replace the team’s current cage behind the University Recreation Center. The cage measures 80 feet wide by 36 feet long and will feature a turf surface with a 24-foot maroon roof which will bear the TSU logo.

“Thanks to donations from all of our TSU alumni, supporters and friends to the fundraising campaign, we’re able to build and upgrade facilities for the department,” said Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Kevin Granger. “The baseball/softball batting cages are just the beginning as we have more projects on the horizon.”

Some of the projects that are on the immediate drawing board for TSU Athletics includes the extension of the turf field/long jump pit relocation at Durley Stadium and a golf simulator inside the H&PE Arena for the TSU golf programs. The turf extension will address field and safety needs for both the football, soccer and track & field programs as the long jump pits will be relocated away from the track to make room for the turf extension. The golf simulator will allow the TSU golf teams to have another avenue to practice and refine their game away from the links on a year-round basis in addition to offering an alternative venue to practice at in case of inclement weather.
