TSU Athletics Partners With Academy Sports + Outdoors To Provide Holiday Cheer For 4 Local Families

The Texas Southern University Department of Athletics and Academy Sports + Outdoors partnered to brighten the lives of four local families ahead of this holiday season recently.

Student-athletes and staff members from the TSU Department of Athletics met at the Academy Sports + Outdoors location on Kirby Drive in Houston to assist with the distribution of gifts to four local families from the Barbara Jordan International Preschool. Each family was given $500 to go on a virtual shopping spree on Academy.com and picked up their orders curbside. In addition to the items from Academy.com, the families also received a trunk filled with food courtesy of the TSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s (S.A.A.C.) ninth annual Adopt-A-Family holiday program.

“We are fortunate to join with the Southwestern Athletic Conference and Academy Sports + Outdoors to form a partnership with TSU Athletics to be able to provide goods and needed items for families during the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Kevin Granger. “Reaching out and giving back to the community is what this initiative is all about. This is huge for us as we’ve been doing this initiative for many years and it’s a such a thrill when the families come up to you and you can see how grateful and thankful they are. Joining up with Academy Sports + Outdoors and the SWAC enhances our initiative and allows us to be able to do more for the families.”

Academy Sports + Outdoors is the Official Sporting Goods and Outdoor Retailer of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and its fans. The partnership between Academy Sports + Outdoors and SWAC focuses on establishing meaningful community initiatives locally.
