The Texas Southern Department of Athletics mourns the loss of former Associate Athletic Director Jason Jenkins.
A native of Houston, Jenkins served as TSU’s Associate Athletic Director and Sports Information Director from 1999 to 2002. He was at the helm during several history-making events in TSU Athletics’ history while also publicizing several All-Americans in addition to handling the department’s marketing efforts.
He departed TSU in May of 2002 for an opportunity of a lifetime with the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers as the team’s Assistant Public Relations Director. After a seven-year stint in San Francisco, Jenkins moved east as he joined the Miami Dolphins in 2009 and was named Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Affairs in 2015 while also serving as a board member for numerous organizations throughout the city.
Jenkins’ father, C.L. Whittington, was a former defensive coordinator at Texas Southern in the 1990s under former head coach Walter Highsmith.
Jenkins is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and three children, Liya, Aiden, and Sloane.
