The Tigers are led by 6-foot-7 forward Jeremy Combs, who was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. The graduate transfer from Dallas (North Texas/LSU) averages 17.0 points and a conference-best 9.0 rebounds per game.

In SWAC play, Combs averaged 20.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Both of those figures led the conference.

Monday’s game will mark the first time the Tigers have faced UTRGV since UTRGV’s name change in 2015, when UT–Pan American merged with UT–Brownsville. UTRGV’s athletics program is a continuation of UT–Pan American’s athletic tradition.

The two teams have met 20 times previously, with each team winning 10 games. The last meeting between the two teams took place in 2007, when UTRGV (as UT–Pan American) defeated Texas Southern 78-60 in Las Vegas, Nev.

TSU is the second consecutive SWAC opponent UTRGV will face, as the Vaqueros opened the CIT with a 74-73 win over Grambling State at home.
