Tigers shut out Prairie View A&M 7-0 to complete series sweep

HOUSTON – The Tigers of Texas Southern University completed a three-game weekend sweep of Prairie View A&M with a 7-0 shutout win on Sunday.

TSU starting pitcher Aron Solis hurled a seven-hit shutout to lead the Tigers to victory. Solis struck out six batters and didn’t issue any walks en route to his second shutout of the season.

With the win, the Tigers (15-29) improved to 11-10 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, good for third place in the conference’s West Division. Prairie View A&M (16-29) fell to 8-12 in league play.

Ryan Diaz delivered what turned out to be the game-winning RBI with a single through the left side in the bottom of the second inning to score Keanu Van Kuren from second base. Parker DeLeon then delivered a two-RBI single to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Van Kuren would hit his fourth home run of the season – a two-run blast – in the bottom of the fifth inning to stretch TSU’s lead to 6-0.

Diaz, Van Kuren, and Olajide Oloruntimilehin all knocked two base hits in the game for the Tigers. Oscar Ponce scored twice in the game.

The Tigers return to action Tuesday when they make the short drive to Houston Baptist for a non-conference game against the Huskies. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
