HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – TSU men’s basketball kept up its winning ways as three players scored in double figures during a 68-58 win over Alabama A&M Monday night.

Once again, TSU opened with its foot on the pedal as they stormed out to a 13-0 lead before AAMU knew what hit them. AAMU finally scored with 14:02 left but TSU kept on charging with a 9-0 run which was capped off by five points from John Jones for a 22-6 lead with 10 minutes left. The Tigers would begin to slow somewhat offensively as AAMU cut its deficit to 26-16 four minutes later but Jordan Gilliam scored four straight points followed by a Michael Weathers’ free throw to up its lead to 31-16. AAMU would draw to within 11 on two occasions but a late basket from Weathers with eight seconds left gave TSU a 35-22 halftime lead.

The Tigers saw a different AAMU team come out the locker room as they opened the half on a 14-8 run to draw within 43-36 at the 14:13 mark. AAMU closed to within seven (45-38) once again but TSU answered with a 13-0 run to push its lead to 58-38 with 8:43 left as Galen Alexander, Karl Nicholas and Weathers sparked the team with key baskets. TSU would enjoy a double digit lead for the next few minutes but AAMU had one late charge left in them as they trimmed its deficit to single digits with 2:29 left.
