The Texas Southern football team returned to the field for the second day of fall camp at Durley Stadium on Saturday morning.

The first day of camp was relatively mild in terms of weather thanks to heavy cloud cover and rain. However, the August heat and humidity Texas is known for stood out on Saturday morning as the TSU training and coaching staffs stressed hydration through the two-hour practice.

“It’s hot but that’s why we encouraged our guys to make sure they came back to camp in shape,” said McKinney. “We’re going to be smart about being in the heat as we’re getting off the field before the hottest part of the day.”

Another area that has stood out during the early part of camp is the overall atmosphere from the intensity of the players and coaches. With increased depth across the board combined with additional experience from the players and coaching staff, the intensity level has remained high from the start of practice to the final whistle.

“The players have a much better understanding of what’s being asked and expected of them,” said McKinney.
