Tigers Fall In Regular Season Finale

Prairie View A&M jumped out to an early lead and prevented the big inning in game three as TSU couldn’t complete the sweep in a 13-5 loss at MacGregor Park on Saturday afternoon.

With two outs in the first, the Panthers hit a three-run homer for a 3-0 lead and expanded the margin to 6-0 in the second as TSU was forced to make an early pitching change. The Panthers tacked on another run as they led 7-0.

Tyrese Clayborne doubled in the third and scored on Jeremy Almaguer’s RBI groundout for TSU’s first run of the game. Justin Cooper led the fourth off with a solo homer but PVAMU answered with a run in the fifth to lead 8-2. The Panthers added their eighth run off a balk in the sixth and added two more in the seventh to lead 10-2.

TSU kept fighting as they scored three runs in the seventh to draw within 10-5 but PVAMU had an answer over the final two innings with three more runs.

Gabriel Vasquez and Cooper led TSU with two hits. Five pitchers saw action for TSU as Brian Williams dropped to 4-2 on the season.

TSU now turns its attention to postseason play as they’ll participate in the SWAC Tournament next Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala.
