Tigers Complete Series Sweep Behind Another Strong Game At The Plate

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Six players had multiple hits as TSU closed out its series at Arkansas-Pine Bluff with an 11-2 win on Sunday.
 
For the second straight game TSU took control early as with a three-run second led by RBIs from Jeremy Almaguer, Tyrese Clayborne and Michael Goudeau. CJ Castillo hit a one-out triple in the third and scored on Johnathon Thomas’ RBI single for a 4-0 lead.
 
Goudeau, Tyler Williams and Castillo drove in runs in the fourth for a 7-0 margin before a UAPB run in the bottom half. Justin Cooper hit a sac fly in the fifth to up the lead to 8-1 as UAPB countered with a run in the sixth for an 8-2 score.
 
Gabriel Vasquez led the seventh off with a homer and TSU closed out the scoring in the eighth with a Thomas RBI single and a Vasquez RBI single.
 
Thomas, Vasquez, Goudeau, Castillo, Almaguer and Clayborne all had two hits while Thomas, Vasquez and Goudeau each had two RBI. Vasquez led TSU with three runs scored followed by two apiece from Goudeau and Clayborne.
 
Brian Williams earned the win after allowing only two runs and striking out three in six innings of action.
 
TSU is back in action on Friday against Alcorn State for a 5 p.m. start at MacGregor Park.
