Tigers complete first day at 68th Annual TSU Relays
HOUSTON – The Tigers of Texas Southern University came away with several top-three finishes on the first day of the U.S. Coast Guard 68th Annual TSU Relays on Friday.
TSU thrower Chris Allen took two top-three finishes Friday, which included winning the shot put with a throw of 14.84 meters (48 feet, 8.25 inches). Allen also took third place in the javelin with a throw of 41.95 meters (137 feet, 7 inches).
The Tigers took the top two places in the shot put, as Allen’s teammate Colby Williams took second place with a throw of 12.67 meters (41 feet, 7 inches).
In the high jump, Tiger competitors Brandon Goins and Taylor Levine took fourth place and fifth place, respectively. Goins successfully cleared a height of 1.88 meters (6 feet, 2 inches), while Levine cleared a height of 1.83 meters (6 feet, 0 inches).
TSU’s performances in Friday’s running events were highlighted by Mykele Young-Sanders’ showing in the 400-meter hurdles. In the final of the event, Young-Sanders took second place with a time of 53.2 seconds.
The Tigers got the fourth- and fifth-place finishes in the 5,000-meter run. Hillary Maiyo completed the race with a time of 15 minutes, 50.62 seconds. Jorge Martinez was next across the finish line, finishing with a time of 15 minutes, 59.13 seconds.
