Tigers Close Out Regular Season With Tough 1-0 Loss At Prairie View A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – A late first half goal was the difference as Prairie View A&M defeated Texas Southern 1-0 in both teams’ regular season finale Friday night.

The Tigers opened Friday’s contest on the defensive side as the Panthers would record three shots in the first five minutes but the Tiger defense was up to the task as goalie Salma Ghazal logged five saves in the half. In the final minute of the half, Prairie View A&M’s Alexis Mack scored a goal for the 1-0 margin.

TSU turned the the tide of the contest in the second half as they outshot the Panthers 7-3 led by Alexis Luna’s three shots. Brooke Ianiero had one final opportunity to tie the match in the final minute but the ball was saved as Prairie View A&M closed out the match with the win.

Luna led TSU with three shots on goal along with Jada MacLean’s three shots and Lemauriel Johnson’s two attempts. Ghazal finished the contest with seven saves in the goal.

The Tigers finished the regular season with a 5-4-1 SWAC mark and a sixth-place finish. They’re back in action Thursday for the 2019 SWAC Soccer Tournament at Prairie View A&M. The official bracket will be announced early next week.
