Tigers Baseball Starts Season With a 4-3 Win Over Eastern Illinois

JACKSON, MS – The Texas Southern Tigers started the 2013 season with a 4-3 win over Eastern Illinois in the Jackson State Invitational baseball tournament.

Four Tigers recorded RBIs in the game including a single by Andrew Garza that drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th inning.

Felix Gomez started on the mound and recorded 5 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Marcos Lara came in and pitched 1.2 innings and Jacob Martinez closed the Tigers out and took the win.

In game two, TSU faced Jackson State. The Tigers fell behind early and never came back. TSU fell 0-4. Texas Southern had 4 hits and 2 errors. Robert Pearson pitched 6 inings with 7 strikeouts and 3 earned runs. Denzel Pipkin came in relief for 2 innings with 2 strikeouts and 1 earned run.

TSU will face Eastern Illinois on Saturday at noon and Jackson State at 3:00pm to wrap up the tournament.
