Tiger men take third at SWAC golf championships

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Tigers of Texas Southern University took third place at the Southwestern Athletic Conference men’s golf championship this past week.
 
At the Oak Wing Golf Course, the Tigers were in third place after the first day of competition and held their spot for the remaining two days. TSU finished with a combined team score of 913, 21 strokes ahead of Arkansas–Pine Bluff.
 
TSU’s Lucas Elliott finished second overall on the individual leaderboard, as he led the Tigers with a three-day score of 221. He carded a 76 on Monday, then finished with a par-72 during Tuesday’s second round and a 73 in the final round Wednesday.
 
Travis Edwards also recorded a top 10 finish for the Tigers. After turning in a score of 80 in the first round, he also finished with a par-72 in the second round. Edwards shot 77 in the third round for a final score of 229, which tied him for eighth place individually.
 
Tanner Skiles and Chris Williams rounded out the TSU scores with three-day totals of 232 and 238, respectively.  Both players carded par-72s in Wednesday’s third round.
 
Grant Everson also competed for the Tigers, shooting a 239. His best round was a 76 on Monday.
 
The Tigers finished behind Prairie View A&M (896) and Alabama State (899).
