Texas Southern Men’s Basketball To Hold Summer Camps In July

Story Links

Texas Southern University head men’s basketball coach Johnny Jones will host a pair of basketball skills for boys ages 8-17 July 8-11 and July 29-Aug. 1 inside the H&PE Arena on the TSU campus.

Campers will have an opportunity to learn from one of the top collegiate head coaches in the nation as Coach Jones has had the opportunity mold current NBA superstar Ben Simmons, Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal and numerous All-Americans over the course of his storied career. This past season, Jones made history at Texas Southern with the longest postseason run since 1977 (CIT Tournament) in addition to wins over nationally ranked Oregon and Power Five Conference teams Baylor and Texas A&M. Also, TSU senior Jeremy Combs was one of only 38 players in the nation to receive Honorable Mention All-American honors from the Associated Press.

Coach Jones and his experienced camp staff will focus on basketball fundamentals and instruction in addition to skills sessions and team play. The camp’s goal is to prepare young players to become fundamentally sound while having fun learning the game.

Both camps will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day as registration will begin at 8 a.m. The cost is $200 per camp as participants will also receive a camp t-shirt and basketball. For more information, visit www.texassouthernbasketballcamp.com or contact Randy Peele at [email protected].

TSU faculty and staff are eligible to receive a 25 percent discount once they register online as the code will be sent via campus info e-mail. To receive the discount, please contact camp coordinator contact Randy Peele at [email protected].
