Softball Falls In Second Round To Alabama State

GULFPORT, Miss. – Alabama State scored five runs in the first and that was all they needed as TSU fell 8-1 in the second round of the SWAC Softball Tournament.

ASU led the game off with a walk and it went from there as they went up 3-0 before TSU’s first out. ASU added another run on a groundout before closing out the inning with an RBI single as they led 5-0.

The contest would settle down as TSU reliever Jazmine Gendorf held ASU scoreless for the next two innings. The Hornets recorded a two-RBI single in the fourth for a 7-0 lead which held until the sixth as Tevanae Tate hit a shot off the top of the outfield fence to score Tierrah Williams for a 7-1 margin. Unfortunately, TSU couldn’t capitalize despite having two runners on with one out as ASU recorded a strikeout and foul out to end the inning.

ASU added a run in the seventh and TSU had three straight flyouts to end the game.

Williams went 2-for-3 with a run score while Jordan McClain, Mila Rodriguez and Tate all had hits. Lailah Bell was tagged with the loss while Gendorf struck out a team-high four batters.

TSU drops to the consolation bracket as they’ll face Jackson State at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
