Softball Drops Doubleheader At Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas Southern softball continued non-conference play as they traveled to College Station, Texas for a matchup with Texas A&M Tuesday afternoon.

TEXAS A&M 8, TSU 0

Texas A&M won the opener 8-0 behind a 12-hit performance at the plate.

With one out in the first, Texas A&M would apply pressure on the base paths with a double steal for an early 1-0 lead. The margin increased to 3-0 after a two-run homer.

TSU’s Mila Rodriguez would open the second with TSU’s lone hit of the afternoon. She would remain at first as the sac bunt by Ja’Lyn Swiney was unsuccessful followed by a pop out and strikeout to end the inning. The Aggies returned to the scoreboard for a 5-0 lead in the third on a sac fly and RBI single. TSU’s Daryn Haslam drew a walk in the top of the fourth but a strikeout and groundout prevented TSU from moving into scoring position.

Texas A&M would add two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to close out the contest as Naomi Reyes and Chelsea Baxter both saw action on the mound with Reyes taking the loss.

TEXAS A&M 9, TSU 0

Once again, Texas A&M struck early in the opening frame as they closed out the series with a 9-0 win.

TSU’s offense opened the contest with a leadoff hit by Crimson Davis followed by a stolen base to get into scoring position. A strikeout followed by a grounder moved Davis to third but the frame would end scoreless with a grounder.

TSU was on the verge of escaping damage in the bottom of the first with two quick outs but a single and an error gave way to a three-run homer for a 3-0 deficit. A&M broke the game open with a four-run third and added two more on two outs in the fourth for the final margin.

Jazmine Gendorf was tagged with the loss as Lailah Bell also threw an inning of action. Davis and Pamela Richardson both had hits for TSU.

TSU continues its intense non-conference slate as they’ll head to Austin, Texas on Friday for a two-game showcase against #10 Texas and Tarleton State. The UT contest is set for 3:30 p.m. followed by Tarleton at 6:30 p.m. as both games will be shown live on the Longhorn Network.
