Soccer Returns To The Field Sunday Afternoon

HOUSTON – The Texas Southern University soccer team returned to the field for its second game of the young season as they took on Rice University Sunday afternoon.

The flow of the game quickly shifted to Rice as the Owls scored a trio of goals within the 13th-16th minutes to claim an early 3-0 lead. TSU would finally settle in and held Rice scoreless for 15 minutes but a pair of late goals in the 30th and 37th minute upped the deficit to 5-0.

Despite the early setback, the Tigers put forth a solid second half as the offense began to flow with a pair of shot attempts. Defensively, the Tigers held Rice at bay until a pair of late goals in the final 13 minutes.

Goalkeeper, Oriana Palacios, guarded her post by blocking eight attempts in the first half while teammate, Jaidyn Christophe had three saves in the second half. The TSU midfielders led the way offensively with three goal shot attempts by Crisley Pavon, Kayla Martinez, and Sammie Garcia, respectively.

TSU begins conference play on Friday at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
