Soccer Returns Home For Pair of Weekend Matches

HOUSTON – The Texas Southern University soccer team will be back action with a pair of home games this weekend against Alcorn State on Friday, Sept.27 at 7 p.m. and Mississippi Valley State Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. inside Durley Stadium.

The Tigers haven’t played since Sept.13 against Lamar University. Last week’s match at Rice University was canceled due to severe weather from Tropical Storm Imelda.

Across the nation, TSU ranks fifth in saves per game as a team and while goalie Salma Ghazal ranks sixth nationally in saves per game. Ghazal also ranks 12th nationally in total saves with 56.

The Tigers look to continue their dominance Friday night as they have won 16 straight games against Alcorn State since 2003. Since 2011, TSU and Mississippi Valley State are tied at 3-3-2 as last year’s contest ended in a 1-1 tie.
