Soccer Ends Weekend Trip With 0-0 Tie At Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. – Coming off a 3-2 win against Southern University in the SWAC opener on Friday, the TSU soccer team tied Jackson State 0-0 after double overtime Sunday.

Sunday’s tie against Jackson State continued a trend in the TSU/JSU series which has developed eight times over the past nine meetings. Since 2014, neither team has won by more than one goal with a tie. This weekend’s tie was the second since a 1-1 decision in 2017.

There was no denying the Tigers kept going off the momentum after Friday’s match where sophomore Ashley Arnes scored a career-best two goals along with senior Ari Mendez’s goal in the second half to solidify the win.

“Despite field conditions and other factors, we connected well and had some good moments in front of the goal,” TSU head soccer coach Lindsay Vera said. “We were a little unlucky at times, but our heads never went down.”

Vera noted how this weekend’s results were a team effort as were the 4 points that TSU earned.

“We’re looking forward to our preparation for Alabama this week, after some much-needed recovery.”

The Lady Tigers continue SWAC play next week as they travel to Alabama. Friday’s match is scheduled against Alabama State at 7 p.m. while Sunday’s match will be against Alabama A&M at 1 p.m.
