Soccer Drops Nail-Biter At Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Texas Southern soccer team fell 1-0 against Alabama State on Friday.

“Tonight wasn’t our best in any category,” TSU head soccer coach Lindsay Vera said. “We struggled to get up the field. We had some good possessions but then we’d lose momentum going into the final third. Our movement off the ball needed to be faster.”

The Tigers persevered on the defensive side with graduate student, Alexis Espino, having five saves throughout the match. Redshirt sophomore and reigning SWAC Offensive Player of the Week, Ashley Arnes delivered the only shot attempt for TSU.

“We’re better when we’re patient and when we connect simple passes to allow time for forwards to get open. But we never really found our rhythm,” added Vera.

ASU’s Alexa Delong posted the only goal of the match in the 50th minute resulting in the Hornets’ win.

“I commend Alabama State for capitalizing on their opportunity. We must learn from this game and continue moving forward with Alabama A&M in our view.” Vera concluded.

TSU will complete their Alabama leg on Sunday as they take on Alabama A&M. Kickoff for the match will be at 1 p.m. and the streaming/stat links will be posted once it becomes available.
