Soccer Drops 2021 Spring Opener To UH

The Texas Southern soccer team dropped its 2021 spring season opener to the University of Houston on Wednesday night.

Playing their first match in 467 days due to the switch of the 2020 fall season to the spring of 2021, TSU fell behind early as the the Cougars struck quickly earning their first goal within the first five minutes of the game in regulation. UH, which was playing its third match of the season, added another goal nine minutes later for an early 2-0 lead. Despite the early setback, TSU regrouped defensively and held the line with solid defense the remainder of the first half as the score remained 2-0.

UH would score early in the second half and maintained their offensive dominance throughout the half as they added six goals for the final score.

Johana Anaya and Stephanie Robles both recorded shots for TSU while Oriana Palacios logged two saves.

TSU returns to action on Sunday at Rice University in Houston. The contest is set to begin at 1 p.m. Fans will be allowed to view the contest live as they are encouraged to visit RICEOWLS.com for more information.
