Season Comes To A Close For Softball

GULFPORT, Miss. – TSU’s 2022 softball season came to an abrupt end as they fell to Jackson State 8-7 in the SWAC Tournament.

For the second straight game, TSU found themselves in an early hole as Jackson State jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the top of the second. However, TSU managed to find its offense early as Tevanae Tate hit a two-run homer in the second followed by a two-run third as Daryn Haslam hit a sac followed by Mila Rodriguez’s RBI single as TSU trailed 7-4.

Jordan McClain hit an RBI single to score Haley Castro in the fourth to draw within 7-5 but JSU added on a run in the sixth to lead 8-5. Castro opened the sixth with a single and McClain’s RBI triple cut the deficit to 8-6. Pamela Richardson’s single closed the gap to 8-7 but TSU hit into a double play to end the inning. That would be the final score of the day as the season would come to a close after a scoreless seventh.

McClain finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI along with a 3-for-4 outing and an RBI from Mila Rodriguez. Tate and Richardson also had two hits each. Lailah Bell started the contest on the mound before giving way to Nora Rodriguez as Rodriguez struck out three in seven innings of action.
