Season Comes To A Close For Baseball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern’s 2022 season came to a close as they fell to Grambling State in the SWAC Tournament on Friday.

TSU jumped ahead 1-0 in the first after Jeremy Gaines scored on a wild pitch. Grambling State answered with two runs in the bottom frame as three straight batters were hit by pitches which led to a two-RBI single.

From there, it was all Grambling State after the second inning as they scored in five straight innings. With TSU down 7-1 entering the sixth, TSU called to score four runs as Juan Sanchez and Gaines combined for four RBI as TSU trailed 7-5. However, the rally was short-lived as GSU responded with three runs in the bottom frame for a 10-5 lead followed by a four-run seventh to close out the scoring.

Vasquez finished the day with a 3-for-5 outing while Gaines had three RBI. Jordan Martinez (6-5) led six pitchers in action as he pitched three innings.
