RODRIGUEZ-BRAVO NAMED SWAC PRESEASON OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Texas Southern senior midfielder Begona Rodriguez-Bravo has been named the SWAC’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Teammates Brooke Ianiero and Mia Marshall also earned preseason honors as they were selected to the All-SWAC Second Team.

Rodriguez-Bravo led the Lady Tigers in scoring last fall with a total of 14 points on six goals.  She recorded three game-winning goals and led the team in five offensive categories while ranking in the top 10 in three offensive categories amongst SWAC student-athletes.

TSU ranked fourth in the SWAC in goals allowed as Ianiero helped the team post six shutouts last season. She also was named the SWAC’s Defensive Player of the Week on one occasion last year.  

Marshall tied for fourth on the team in points as she scored two goals last season. A forward from Houston, she ranked second on the team in shots and shots on goal.

Led by first-year head coach Lindsay Vera, TSU was picked fifth in the preseason poll. The team will make its 2019 debut next Friday, Aug. 16 against Navarro College at 5 p.m. inside Durley Stadium.
