Pree, Williams Win Individual Titles At SWAC Track & Field Championships

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Kenneth Pree and Chadrick Williams both won individual titles during the first two days of the SWAC Track & Field Championships at Prairie View A&M.

Pree was crowned the long jump champion after a mark of 24-2.25 feet. He accomplished the mark on his third attempt and nearly came close to matching it on his fourth attempt but fell 1/10th of a meter short.

Williams shattered his previous personal best by nearly 14 feet as he won first-place in the javelin with a throw of 171-11. He finished nine feet ahead of the nearest competitor as he turned the heat on in his last two attempts. Williams had decent throws in his first three attempts followed by a foul before posting back-to-back marks which turned out to be the winning throws.

Kenneth White placed third in the prelims of the 400 while Kylan Wess placed fourth and Brandon Washington sixth in the 800 prelims. Efrain Lira finished fourth in the 10,000 while both Karon and Bryan Clarke qualified for the finals in the 110 and 400-meter hurdles, respectively.

Jose Gonzalez placed second in the finals of the steeplechase followed by Luis Delreal’s fourth-place finish. Christian Sanchez and Brian Martinez also picked up points in the event as they placed seventh and eighth, respectively.
