Pree To Compete In NCAA National Championship At 8:30 p.m. Tonight On ESPN3

Texas Southern sophomore long jumper Kenneth Pree will compete on the national stage tonight at 8:30 p.m. CST live on ESPN3.

The Houston native will compete in the second flight tonight as he attempts to join a select group of Texas Southern long jumpers who’ve achieved national prominence over the past 34 years. He’s the first TSU student-athlete to compete in the long jump since 1989 and the first from the SWAC to compete in the event since 2017 and only the second athlete since 2002.

In 1998, Yuan Hunt was named an All-American after finishing fourth at the 1998 women’s track & field championship while Paul Emordi was crowned national champion in the long jump in 1987. Also in 1987, Emordi’s teammate, Vernon George, placed second at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. In 1989, Nuguent Cotton placed ninth overall at the outdoor championship in the long jump as he was the last TSU long jumper to compete in that event.
