Perkins Crowned SWAC Champion, Women’s Track & Field Closes Out Season At SWAC Championship

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Phylan Perkins ended the year as a SWAC Champion while the TSU women’s track & field team closed out the season on a strong note at the 2022 SWAC Outdoor Championship on the Prairie View A&M campus. 

Lillie Burnett placed third in the 200 with a season-best run of 24.22 and fourth in the 100 (11.83) while Rayah Wynn placed fourth (55.55) followed by Shelby Brooks (56.57) in eighth as both posted season-best marks. Briana Creeks (2:15.38) finished fourth in the 800 while the 4×100-meter relay placed fifth in a time of 46.96. The mile relay team closed out SWAC on a strong note with a season-best 3:34.34. 

Phylan Perkins won the SWAC Title in the hammer throw as she tossed 50.89 meters while teammate Skyla Faux placed seventh (44.36). Faux finished second overall with a season-best mark in the discus (150-6) followed by a fifth-place throw from Perkins (133-7). Jalecia Smith placed eighth in the javelin (105-0) while Perkins threw a mark of 41.0.25 in the shot put to place eighth. 

The team will await the announcement of the regional selections over the next few weeks.
