Nintcheu’s two wins lead Lady Tigers on first day of 68th Annual TSU Relays

HOUSTON – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University got a pair of first-place finishes from Christelle Nintcheu to highlight the first day at the U.S. Coast Guard 68th Annual TSU Relays.
Nintcheu won the shot put and discus throws for the Lady Tigers on Friday. In the discus event, she won the event with a throw of 43 meters (141 feet, 1 inch).
In the shot put, Nintcheu was one of three Lady Tigers to finish in the top five. Nintcheu’s throw of 12.93 meters (42 feet, 5.25 inches) in the final won the event. Her teammate, Phylan Perkins, finished fourth with a throw of 11.66 meters (38 feet, 3.25 inches).
TSU’s Taylor Watson took fifth place in the shot put with a throw of 11.3 meters (37 feet, 1 inch).
The throwing events were not the only competitions in which the Lady Tigers claimed first place. Quintella Johnson was victorious in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.67 meters (5 feet, 5.75 inches).
Johnson led three Lady Tigers with top five finishes in the high jump. Kiya Reeves and Jalecia Smith took fourth place and fifth place, respectively in the event. Both jumpers cleared heights of 1.42 meters (4 feet, 7.75 inches), with Reeves taking fourth place on the tiebreaker.
Elsewhere in the field events, Nintcheu also claimed a fourth-place finish in the javelin event with a throw of 33.35 meters (109 feet, 5 inches).
TSU’s showing in the first day’s running events was highlighted by third- and fourth-place finishes in the 400-meter hurdles. Morgan Utsey-Williams took third with a time of 1 minute, 6.09 seconds, while Jessilyn Nicholas was right behind her with a time of 1:06.31.
