Men’s Track Kenneth Pree Crowned Long Jump Champion, Track Teams Prepare For Final Day Of Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – TSU’s Kenneth Pree won the long jump while the men received solid performances from the distance runners to open the first day of the 2021 SWAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Pree came out on fire as his opening jump was enough to win the event but he added to his total slightly on the second attempt for a winning mark of 23-6.75. Teammate Christian Lewis also fared well as he placed third with a jump of 22-7.75.

TSU’s distance medley placed third in a time of 10:33.92 while Jose Gonzalez placed third in the 3,000 (8:36.95). Kellen Garion placed fifth in the shot put while Karon Bain qualified for finals of the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.57.

Five events were scored on Wednesday as TSU sits in a good spot as the Tigers are in third place and only 11 points behind the leader entering the final day.

On the women’s side, the TSU distance medley team picked up points as Miriam Darden, Ashlonia John, Shelby Brooks and T’Nia Sample finished fourth.

The event concludes tomorrow as the first event begins at 8:30 a.m. while the mile relay closes out the day at 6:45 p.m. Tomorrow’s action is scheduled to be streamed live on the SWAC Digital Network with coverage starting at 2:00 p.m.  Live stats, heat sheets, meet records, and the complete schedule of events can be found by clicking here.
