Men’s Track & Field Opens Up 2023 Outdoor Campaign

AUSTIN, Texas – Turey Stoudemire placed second overall in the high jump as the TSU men’s track & field team kicked off the 2023 outdoor season at the Longhorn Invitational on the campus of the University of Texas.

Stoudemire went 6-9 in his first-ever collegiate outdoor meet to place second in the high jump on his final attempt at that height as he posted TSU’s highest finish on Saturday.

On the track, freshmen Isaiah Barnes (50.16) and Michael Strange, Jr. (50.38) finished 7-8 in the 400 while Brandon Washington (1:53.97), Ka’Bren Mitchell (1:55.78) and Cameron Houston (1:58.85) went 4-5-6 in the 800. Jose Gonzalez placed fourth (3:59.72) in the 1,500-meter run followed by Albert Norman (4:21.02), David Livingston (4:21.86) and Brian Martinez (4:30.49). Malachi Byrd placed fifth (14.85) in the 110-meter hurdles to round out the running events.

Kenneth Pree (24-3) and Donyae Castaneda (22-7.75) finished fifth and eighth, respectively in the long jump. Chadrick Williams placed fifth (47-10) in the triple jump followed by Elijah Jordan’s sixth place mark of 46-11.

TSU is back in action at the 71st annual TSU Relays on March 17-18 on the TSU campus.
