Men’s Golf Wins SWAC Title In With A Nailbiter

FLOWOOD, Miss. – The Texas Southern men’s golf team fought through the final round to claim the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Golf Championship at The Refuge Golf Club.

Only 20 shots separated first through fifth place as TSU won by three shots over second place Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

“God is amazing,” Texas Southern University head golf coach Dr. Gary Grandison said.

Freshman William O’Connor finished third individually and earned All SWAC Medalist First Team Honors with his 1-over 217 (72-69-76). O’Connor also provided the tournament-low round of 3-under 69 in his second round.

Senior Landon Johnstone received All-SWAC Medalist Second Team Honors with his 10th place finish after posting a 225 (70-77-78). Johnstone’s 2-under 70 opening round set the tone for the Tigers through the tournament.

Freshman Joel Sullivan was one stroke back with a 226 (74-75-77) and finished tied for 12th. Junior Devansh Chadha was tied for 14th with a 227 (74-74-79) while freshman Kci Lindskog had two solid final rounds of one and two-over respectively to give him his 229 (82-73-74) total

“There were multiple occurrences that revealed how God graced us with this Championship,” Dr. Grandison concluded.

By clinching the 2022 SWAC Title, the Tigers have qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships. There will be a NCAA D-I selection show to determine where TSU will compete.
