Men’s Golf Opens Up Season At Charlie Sifford Centennial Cup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Texas Southern men’s golf 2022-23 season is officially underway as the Tigers competed in the inaugural Charlie Sifford Centennial Cup at Quail Hollow Club hosted by Johnson C. Smith University and presented by Bridgestone, Citi, Cognizant, and Nucor. The 2022 Presidents Cup will be contested on Sept. 20-25 at Quail Hollow Club.

The Tigers competed in a Presidents Cup-format exhibition on Monday alongside Johnson C. Smith University, Howard University, Florida A&M University, Alabama State University, and Livingstone. The qualifying schools were solidified via the Golfstat Ranking in May.

The players were split into teams of 2, competing in Four-Ball competition in the morning and Singles matchplay in the afternoon where the Tigers were paired with Johnson C. Smith and Howard. In the Four-Ball Matchup, senior Devansh Chadha and his playing partner won their 3&1 while sophomore Kci Lindskog and his partner won their 2&1. The Singles matchplay saw Chadha and Lindskog winning their matches 3&2 respectfully.

“Charlie Sifford’s legacy as the first African-American player on the PGA TOUR continues to impact future generations of golfers, allowing for kids from all backgrounds to experience this great sport,” said 2022 Presidents Cup Chair Johno Harris. “On behalf of the Presidents Cup and Quail Hollow Club, we are thrilled to welcome these top HBCU players to our community for a first-of-its-kind showcase event and the opportunity to compete on a world-class venue just weeks before the top U.S. and International players arrive in Charlotte.”

The Tigers return to action in September where they will compete in the Folds of Honor Collegiate hosted by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
