Lady Tigers track and field team competes at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alexis Gray won the 200-meter dash to lead the Texas Southern University women at the 2019 Samford University open this past weekend.
 
Gray, a senior from Nassau, Bahamas, won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.07 seconds. She was one of two TSU runners in the top five, as Nikole Haroon came in fifth with a time of 25.39 seconds.
 
The 200-meter dash was not the only running event with a TSU runner on the proverbial podium. Mariah Stewart took third place in the 800-meter run, completing the event with a time of 2 minutes, 24.24 seconds.
 
In the field events, Quintella Johnson highlighted the TSU results with a second-place finish in the high jump. Johnson cleared a height of 1.73 meters to take second place.
 
Elsewhere on the field, T’Nia Sample finished fourth in the triple jump with a result of 11.3 meters. Christelle Nintcheu also turned in a fourth-place performance in the shot put with a throw of 13.06 meters.
 
The Lady Tigers return to action next weekend when they compete at the University of Houston’s Houston Invitational. The team will compete throughout the day Friday and Saturday.
