Lady Tigers take several high marks at Prairie View Relays

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University held a near-monopoly on the throwing events at the Prairie View Relays this past weekend.
 
TSU’s Christelle Nintcheu won four throwing events, and set personal bests in the hammer throw and javelin throw to lead the Lady Tigers at the relays. She won the hammer throw with a mark of 46.76 meters, and won the javelin event with a throw of 37.95 meters (124 feet, 6 inches).
 
Nintcheu was also victorious in the discus and shot put events. She led three TSU athletes taking the top three spots in the discus, winning the event with a throw of 37.97 meters (124 feet, 7 inches). Her teammate Taylor Watson finished second with a throw of 36.43 meters (119 feet, 6 inches), and TSU’s Victoria Brown finished third with a throw of 34.39 meters (112 feet, 10 inches).
 
In the shot put event, Nintcheu had the top throw of four TSU players taking the top five spots. Nintcheu’s throw of 12.73 meters (41 feet, 9.75 inches) won the event, while her teammate Phylan Perkins took third with a throw of 11.79 meters (38 feet, 8.25 inches).
 
Watson finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.5 meters, while Brown took fifth with a throw of 10.71 meters.
 
On other field events, Quintella Johnson finished third in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.58 meters (5 feet, 2.25 inches). Rakayla Robertson finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.83 meters (38 feet, 9.75 inches); T’Nia Sample took fourth in the triple jump, recording a mark of 11.44 meters (37 feet, 6.5 inches).
 
Morgan Utsey-Williams (pictured) had a pair of top-four finishes in two different hurdles events. She took second in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 1 minute, 5.05 seconds. Utsey-Williams finished a little more than a second ahead of TSU teammate Jessilyn Williams, who finished third with a time of 1:06.37.
 
In the 100-meter hurdles, Utsey-Williams took fourth with a time of 15.34 seconds. Robertson took second place in the event with a time of 14.75 seconds.
