Lady Tigers set for Alabama State on Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University begin their final road trip of the regular season Saturday when they visit Alabama State. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
A Texas Southern win Saturday would give the Lady Tigers a split of their season series with Alabama State. The Lady Hornets prevailed 58-51 in Houston last month.

The Lady Tigers (12-13, 8-6 SWAC) are locked in a three-way tie for fifth place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings with Alabama A&M and Jackson State. The trio of teams trail Grambling State and Alabama State by a single game.
 
Niya Mitchell leads the Lady Tigers into Saturday’s contest at Alabama State. The 5-foot-10 forward from Bay City, Texas, averages a double-double with 14.0 points and a SWAC-leading 10.6 rebounds per contest.
 
Alabama State (10-15, 9-5 SWAC) is led by 5-foot-9 forward Ayana Emmanuel. She leads the Lady Hornets with 13.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
