Lady Tigers seek return to winning ways against Alabama A&M

HOUSTON – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University will seek to return to their winning ways Monday when they host Alabama A&M. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Texas Southern (8-11, 4-4 SWAC) saw its three-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a 58-51 loss to Alabama State. The visiting Lady Bulldogs (9-10, 4-4 SWAC) fell to Prairie View A&M 77-65 on Saturday, and have lost three of their last four games entering Monday’s matchup.

Texas Southern ranks among the NCAA’s top 80 teams in both steals (80th, 9.3 spg) and turnovers (60th, 18.9 turnovers forced per game).

3rd in 3’s
The Lady Tigers shoot 32.5 percent from 3-point range, which ranks third in the SWAC. Marquia Turner shoots 41.3 percent (38 of 92) from 3-point range, while Richelle Velez shoots 32.7 percent (36 of 110) from behind the arc.

Lane’s block party
Isis Lane averages 1.6 blocked shots per game, and 2.4 per game in SWAC play. She blocked a career-high six shots last Monday at Mississippi Valley State. For the season, she is also averaging 5.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest. 

Lady Tigers vs. Alabama A&M
The Lady Tigers have won 12 consecutive games over Alabama A&M dating back to 2012-13 season. TSU leads the all-time series with Alabama A&M 24-16. The Lady Bulldogs are seeking their first win over TSU since the 2011-12 season, when they swept the season series from the Lady Tigers.
