Lady Tigers secure 51-46 victory over Prairie View A&M

HOUSTON- In the first game of the cross-town classic doubleheader the Texas Southern Lady Tigers captured a 51-46 decision over rival Prairie View A&M at the H&PE Arena.

In front of an energetic home crowd, the Lady Tigers fought hard and physical going into the half with a 29-20 advantage.

Guard Te’era Williams led all scorers, going 5-7 from the field for 13 points and 5 rebounds. Teammates Gianne Fleming and Morgan Simmons helped on glass with eight and seven rebounds respectively.

Prairie View attempted a comeback in the final minutes of the second half but the Lady Tigers stayed focused and hit crucial free throws to seal the victory. The win was Texas Southern’s ninth consecutive victory.

Texas Southern scored 16 points off PVAMU turnovers while outscoring the Lady Panthers 30-24 inside the paint. Overall Texas Southern improved to 12-9 for the season and 9-1 in conference play.

The Lady Tigers hit the road for conference action against Jackson State (Feb. 9) and Grambling State (Feb. 11) before returning home against Arkansas Pine Bluff on February 16 for a game set to tipoff at 11:00 am at H&PE Arena.
