Lady Tigers place two on All-SWAC teams

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University placed two women’s basketball players on the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference teams, the league announced Tuesday.
 
Niya Mitchell, a 5-foot-10 forward from Bay City, Texas, was named to the All-SWAC First Team. Her teammate, Isis Lane, was named to the All-SWAC Second Team as a center.
 
The leading rebounder in the conference, Mitchell averaged a double-double for the season, posting 14.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Her 14.5 points per game ranked fifth in the SWAC.
 
Mitchell led the team in scoring as TSU went 15-15 during the season. The Lady Tigers went 11-7 and claimed the No. 5 seed into the SWAC Tournament, where they fell in the quarterfinal round at Grambling State.
 
Lane, a 6-foot-3 center from Oklahoma City, Okla., averaged 4.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Her 1.5 blocked shots per game ranked third in the SWAC.
