Lady Tigers in fifth place after first day of SWAC indoor championship meet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University stand in fifth place after the first day of competition at the Southwestern Athletic Conference indoor track and field championship meet.
 
At the Birmingham Crossplex, the Tigers earned 23 points Thursday, three points behind Arkansas–Pine Bluff, and five points behind third-place Southern.
 
The Lady Tigers got a pair of third-place finishes from Mariah Stewart and Christelle Nintcheu. Stewart took third in the 3,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 10 minutes, 49.24 seconds.
 
On the field, Nintcheu finished in third place in the weight throw event; her top throw went 16.39 meters (53 feet, 9.25 inches).
 
Robyn Brooks and Rakayl Robertson took seventh and eighth place, respectively in the long jump. Both competitors recorded jumps of 5.25 meters (17 feet, 2.75 inches).
 
In the pentathlon, TSU’s Kiya Reeves finished in the top five in four of the five events.
 
The championship meet concludes Friday.
