Lady Tigers finish fourth at the SWAC indoor championship meet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University finished in fourth place out of 10 teams at the Southwestern Athletic Conference indoor track and field championship meet Friday.
 
TSU finished with 66 points in the team standings, four and a half points behind third-place Southern. Alabama State won championship with 188.5 team points.
 
Texas Southern’s Quintella Johnson tied a SWAC record en route to winning the high jump event. Johnson’s best jump of 1.79 meters (5 feet, 10.5 inches) tied the record for the event set last year.
 
In the shot put event, TSU’s Christelle Nintcheu took fifth place with a throw 13.16 meters (43 feet, 2.25 inches).
 
In the running events, the Lady Tigers had a pair of second-place finishes – in the 200-meter dash and 4×400-meter relay. Alexis Gray took second-place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.83 seconds.
 
Gray was also part of the relay team that took silver with a time of 3 minutes, 46.9 seconds. Gray teamed with Mariah Stewart, Ashlonia John, and Nikole Haroon.
 
Stewart (pictured) also claimed an individual medal with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter run; she finished the race with a time of 10:49.24.
 
Meanwhile, Gray also claimed a third medal with a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash. She took the bronze with a time of 7.52 seconds.
