Lady Tigers aim to stop losing streak Saturday against Arkansas–Pine Bluff

HOUSTON – The Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University will try to snap a two-game losing streak Saturday when they welcome Arkansas–Pine Bluff to H&PE Arena.
 
Texas Southern (10-13, 6-6 SWAC) currently sits in seventh place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings, but is only two games back from third place.

Arkansas–Pine Bluff (5-15, 2-11 SWAC) is led by 5-foot-8 guard Noe’ll Taylor, who leads the team in scoring with an average of 8.9 points per game. The Golden Lions enter Saturday’s contest having lost seven of their last eight games.
 
The Lady Tigers have won their last two home games and are 5-2 overall at H&PE Arena this season. Junior guard Niya Mitchell averages 16.9 points and 11.0 rebounds per game when playing at home.

Double-double Mitchell Mitchell
Niya Mitchell has recorded nine double-doubles this season, including eight through TSU’s 12 conference games. She averages 14.2 points and a SWAC-leading 10.3 rebounds per game. In conference play, Mitchell averages 15.3 points and 12.9 rebounds per contest.

De-FENSE! De-FENSE!
The Lady Tigers give up the fewest points per game in the SWAC, as opponents have averaged only 62.1 points per game against TSU. Against the SWAC, the Lady Tigers give up 60.4 points per game, which ranks second only to Alabama State (60.3 points per contest).
 
Okwilagwe seeing more playing time
Senior center Catherine Okwilagwe returned to the starting lineup Monday for the first time since January 5. Over her last five games, Okwilagwe has averaged 6.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while averaging approximately 25 minutes per appearance.

Lady Tigers vs. Arkansas–Pine Bluff
The Lady Tigers have won 10 of their last 13 games against Arkansas–Pine Bluff dating back to the 2012-13 season. TSU leads the overall series 28-19. Earlier this season, the Lady Tigers won in Pine Bluff for the first time since 2016.
