Hopkins Named SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Texas Southern’s Justin Hopkins has been named the SWAC’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week following back-to-back performances versus Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff, respectively.

Hopkins led TSU in scoring with 17.5 points and was second on the team in rebounding with 9.0 rebounds per game as the Tigers split their last road trip. The Huntsville, Ala. native shot 57.1 percent  from the field and averaged two assists while converting 11-of-12 free throws for a 91.7 percent mark.

Hopkins had a double-double (24 points/10 rebounds) in the Tigers’ comeback win over Mississippi Valley State while shooting 81.8 percent from the field. He followed up that performance with another solid outing versus UAPB where he grabbed eight rebounds and finished with 11 points.

The Tigers are back at home for their final two regular season contests this weekend as they’ll face Alabama A&M on Saturday and Alabama State on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
