Henry Posts Career Night As BYU Pulls Away Late In 2nd Half

PROVO, Utah – PJ Henry scored a career-high 21 points but a big second half run by BYU was the difference as TSU fell 81-64 at #18 BYU Wednesday night at the Marriott Center.
 
Both teams hung tough with each other until the midway point of the first half as BYU went on a 14-3 run which turned a 9-7 contest into a 23-10 BYU lead. TSU refused to back down as John Jones ended the drought with a jumper as TSU began to heat up and cut BYU’s lead to 26-20 behind the strength of 5-of-6 shooting from the field. The Cougars pushed their lead back to 10 on several occasions as the half went on but the Tigers remained in the hunt by getting to the free throw line and converting.
 
TSU would trail by seven (34-27) with 3:24 remaining as the flow of the contest would change over the final three minutes. Both teams traded three-pointers during the two-minute mark but BYU would add two more treys before the buzzer to go into the half ahead 43-30.
 
The Tigers would stay close for most of the second half as they trailed 59-49 after Brison Gresham’s and-one with 12:57 remaining. However, BYU went on a 12-3 run to move ahead 71-52 at the 8:25 mark. The Tigers put together an 8-0 run over the next minute to get within 11 but that would be the closest they would get as BYU pulled away at the end.
 
PJ Henry led TSU with 21 points and four rebounds while Gresham added 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Karl Nicholas and John Walker III both scored nine points.
 
TSU will have time to rest as its next game isn’t until Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Louisiana Tech.
