Haroon Wins 400, Women’s Track Opens Season With Solid Marks

HOUSTON – Senior Nikole Haroon won the 400 and placed second in the 200 with a personal best time as the Texas Southern women’s track & field team had several promising performances at the FasTrack Athletix Opener on Saturday.

Competing against student-athletes from the University of Texas, Lamar, Stephen F. Austin and unattached competitors, Haroon won the 400 in a time of 56.86 before returning to the track nearly three hours later to run a 25.09 in the 200 as she placed second. Her time in the 200 was a personal best and her fastest time since 2018. Sophomore Tatyana Bryant also competed in the event and finished third overall as she clocked a 25.72. 

Bryant recorded the second-best and a personal best time (7.76) in the prelims of the 60-meter dash. Also in the same event, freshman Tajaia Paddio ran a 7.76 in the prelims before returning to the finals en route to a second-place finish. 

Sophomore T’Nia Sample recorded an indoor collegiate-best mark of 37-7.75 to finish second in the triple jump while senior ChristelleNintcheu placed second in the weight throw with a collegiate best throw of 54-2. Nintcheu also placed fourth in the shot put as she recorded a mark of 42-1.25. Teammate Taylor Watson finished fourth in the weight throw as she logged a throw of 50-8.75 feet.

The Tigers placed fourth overall in the 4×400-meter relay as the quartet of Ashlonia John, Haroon, Rashel Bonds and Briana Creeks ran 3:59.57. The distance medley team of Cassidy True, Deshawn Petitt, Alayshia Jones and Mireya Del Abra finished second.

TSU will return to the track in 2020 as they’ll open the year at the Ted Nelson Invitational in College Station, Texas on Jan. 17.
